ARCO Madrid is in Istanbul ! They arranged a biennual brunch at X Restaurant-IKSV. Managing director Carlos Urroz Arancibia and Commercial Management and Curated Programmes director Maribel Lopez told us Arco Madrid. The ARCO Foundation Collection currently owns 251 works by 197 artists, acquired from 128 galleries.
In 1987, IFEMA and ARCOmadrid jointly created the ARCO Foundation, a non-profit organization whose holdings are used for the promotion of contemporary art. The ARCO Foundation started the collection with works acquired during the art fair, with the aim of contributing to the development and promotion of Spanish and international contemporary art, and the divulgation of its collection via scheduled exhibitions and theoretical events. Throughout its twenty-one years of existence, the Foundation"s objective has been two-fold: on the one hand, to serve as an example to other institutions in terms of acquiring works at ARCOmadrid and, on the other, to encourage international contemporary art collecting and to drive the market based on the ARCOmadrid fair.
