NOTHINGNESS

Beyoğlu is  the heart of art  in İstanbul  and Beyoğlu Municipal Art Gallery hosts one of masters of Contemporary Art, Metin Güçlü with “Nothingness “ exhibition from October 4th through 24th. The artist"s exhibiton entitled ""If there is no light there is no colour neither""  Curator Beste Gürsu invited us.

I want to share with you Metin Güçlü"s  beautiful text about Nothingness :

“I WANT TO COMPELL THE VIEWERS TO THINK A BIT, WHILE RESTING ON THE MARBLE SLAB AT THE MOSQUE COURTYARD ON THEIR FINAL JOURNEY...
I wanted to evoke in the viewer the desperate appeal to God of all faiths which are on the side of those who are subjected to cruelty, on the side of those who are oppressed and all beliefs on the side of human dignity; regardless of the differences in religion, language or race, through the concepts of Sufism, which are very different from and deeper than religious concepts...

In the material world we live in, where human disasters, wars, hunger, oppression and exploitation have reached their zenith; and where we live in the parallel world of ostentation, waste and consumer economy; unless we look back at the time we have left behind and do not realise its "NIHILISM", exploitation will not come to an end and human dignity will continue to be trampled on...Ambition, avarice and the desire to hoard...are the obstacles to humanity"s getting up on its feet...
 
 “I THINK, THEREFORE I DO NOT EXIST"" is the paradox..
In this exhibition, I am letting the spectator observe the objects, which I believe will shock, stun and occasionally cause regret and disturbance -- maybe because we have never looked at/never been able to look at/never wanted to look at "from that aspect "ever" — in that very paradox.(Does) The universe carries (carry) traces/evidence of the reflection of the infinite creator. Would it be possible to understand the heavens by grasping what"s on earth?

My objects aim to trigger thought exercises such as this or similar ones.
The vision of Sufism is as old as the beginning of human kind, very different from religion itself and much deeper. It merges with the roots where all holy books are linked with.It carries beauties and names from the beautiful names of God.All holy books are on the side of those who are denigrated and trodden on, those who are “weak and helpless”, those who are oppressed.This is also the story of mankind.
NOTHINGNESS IS BOTH THE BEGINNING/THE LOWEST AND ALSO THE END/THE HIGHEST.”
